STANDARDS TOBACCO ACT - LAW 44 IN QUEBEC
Note that since May 26, 2016, in addition to the already existing bans, it is prohibited to smoke or use an electronic cigarette, especially in the following public places:
- Bus shelters (whether closed or not);
- Commercial terraces, including those of restaurants and bars;
- Daycare centers and daycare centers (at all times);
- Common areas of apartment buildings with 2 to 5 dwellings;
- Outdoor play areas for children: sports grounds, playgrounds and summer camp grounds;
- Grounds of educational institutions: pre-school, primary, secondary, including general adult education centers and vocational training centers (at all times).
Also, it is important to note that since May 26, 2016, it is prohibited to smoke within a radius of 9 meters from any door and window that opens, as well as from air intakes communicating with a closed place where smoking is not allowed.

YOUR OBLIGATION CONCERNING THE POSTING
In fact, the operator of a public place or an installation covered by the tobacco law (law 44) must indicate by means of posters installed in the sight of people who frequent this place that smoking is prohibited. In particular, the display must clearly delimit the area where smoking is prohibited as well as the perimeter of 9 meters, if applicable. ANTICIPATED OFFENSES AND FINES OF THE LAW FOR THE OPERATION OF A LOCATION OR OF A BUSINESS
Consequently, according to law 44, failing to indicate the prohibition on smoking by means of posters, places where smoking is prohibited could be fined from 500 $ to 12,500 $ for the first offense and could cost you up to 25,000 $, following a recurrence.
